Explore, with this 10-day tour, the fabulous region of Casamance and its islands. A unique journey off the beaten path!

Program

Day 1: Airport – Somone

Arrival from your flight. Transfer to your hotel in La Somone. Dinner on your own (not included) and overnight at the Africa Queen Hotel or similar.

Day 2: Somone -Diass Airport – Ziguinchor Airport – Ziguinchor

Breakfast. Transfer to Diass airport for your flight to Ziguinchor (timing to be determined based on availability).

Upon arrival at Ziguinchor airport, a transfer will take you to your hotel, Casa Motel or similar. Lunch on your own (not included).

Tour of Ziguinchor, an old colonial city, a small capital founded in 1645 by the Portuguese and later taken over by the French.

Visit the historic center with its Saint-Antoine-de-Padoue Cathedral and the Saint-Maur-des-Fossés market.

Dinner at a restaurant in Ziguinchor and overnight at the Hotel Flamboyant or similar.

Day 3: Ziguinchor – Djilapao – Affiniam – Ziguinchor

Breakfast. Boarding a dugout canoe to navigate the bolongs bordered by mangroves. You’ll pass through the streams of Bird Island, a sanctuary for numerous migratory birds: flamingos, storks, pelicans, egrets, herons, and snake birds…

Continuing the journey to Djilapao Island, known for its peculiar two-story house, home to artists nestled amidst the mangroves. Arriving at Affiniam, one of the most beautiful villages in the region, renowned for palm wine harvesting and rice farming. Visit the impluvium house and have a local lunch in the village. Return to Ziguinchor by late afternoon. Stroll through the exotic Djibelor garden renowned for its extensive fruit tree plantations.

Return to Ziguinchor. Dinner and overnight stay at Hotel Flamboyant or similar.

Day 4: Ziguinchor – Enampore – Eloubaline Island – Oussouye

Breakfast and departure along a beautiful road marked by coconut groves and rice fields where children often bathe, heading towards the village of Enampore. Visit the impluvium huts, with roofs shaped like open funnels that illuminate the main room and collect water.

Next, board a canoe to reach Eloubaline Island for a unique and human experience. Discovered by a fisherman, Mr. Djitadia, seeking a place to settle his tribe during tribal wars, the island became a secluded refuge for people to live in peace. He settled there with his family, and later, other families arrived from nearby villages in Casamance (Mlomp, Oussouye). Three major families, mostly animists, inhabit this place. Presently, Eloubaline has over 600 inhabitants living in 42 traditional huts, including 6 impluvium huts that collect rainwater. Around 90% of the population identifies with animism.

Lunch on the island, followed by the journey towards Oussouye. Check-in at the village campsite in Oussouye. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5: Oussouye – Egueye Island

Breakfast, followed by a VTT (Mountain Bike) ride through rice fields, bush, forests, and palm groves towards the village of Siganar, with its various neighborhoods. Then, we proceed towards the village of Niambalang, where we visit an Impluvium hut. Return to Oussouye either through the bush and rice fields or by road.

Lunch, then off to the village of Diakène Ouolof to take a canoe towards Egueye Island, where you’ll experience a magical time in one of the most secret and wild corners of the region. Hike on the island, settle in at the Egueye Island camp. Enjoy traditional women’s dance performances. Dinner and overnight stay at the Egueye village camp.

Day 6: Egueye Island – Carabane Island

Breakfast. Free morning: Opportunity for kayaking or paddleboarding. Lunch. Then, departure by canoe to Carabane Island. Carabane Island was a major trading hub during French rule and still holds numerous remnants of grand colonial houses and a Breton church near the colonial cemetery. Accommodation at the former island mission transformed into a hotel (Hotel Carabane). Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 7: Carabane Island – Katakalousse – Diembering

Breakfast. Departure by canoe to Katakalousse, then transfer to Diembering. Check-in at your hotel. Lunch. Free afternoon. Dinner and overnight stay at Assep Camp.

Day 8: Diembering – Bouyouye – Boucotte – Kabrousse – Cap Skirring – Diembering

Breakfast. Full-day visit to Bouyouye with houses built under the silk-cotton trees, Boucotte and its open-air museum showcasing Diola cultures and fetishes, and Kabrousse: the village of Queen Alioune Sittoe Diatta. Lunch at Cap Skirring. Stroll through the village. Return to Diembering. Dinner and overnight stay at Assep Camp.

Day 9: Diembering – Kaolack – Nianing

Breakfast. Free morning. Lunch en route. Visit to the village of Sénoba. Customs formalities at the border. Continue towards Kaolack passing through the Farafégni Bridge. Lunch at Relais de Kaolack. Transfer to Nianing. Dinner and overnight stay at Maison Couleur Passion or similar.

Day 10: Nianing – Airport

Breakfast. Free morning. Lunch on your own (not included). Transfer to the airport according to your flight schedule. End of our services.
